What is Transumbilical Breast Augmentation?

Transumbilical Breast Augmentation (TUBA) is a specialized procedure, and few cosmetic surgeons are truly proficient in the method at this time.
TUBA involves making a small incision just on the edge of the navel to carry out the breast augmentation procedure. A small tube, inserted through the navel incision, is moved through the subcutaneous fat layer on the abdomen until it reaches the chest. Through the tube, empty breast implants are placed on the chest and are then filled with saline solution.
TUBA allows patients to experience all of the benefits of breast implants with very subtle and minimal scarring. During the workshop Dr. Patino explains and teaches the technique, research, and hands-on skills necessary to make this procedure successful in your own practice.
General anesthesia is available at The Cosmetic Surgical Center of El Cerrito. This Transumbilical Breast Augmentation workshop, however, is unique because Dr. Patino teaches other surgeons how to do this procedure under tumescent anesthesia instead of general anesthesia.

Dr. Patino is the Chief Medical Director of The Cosmetic Surgical Center of El Cerrito in California. Dr. Patino is board-certified and recertified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He is one of the select doctors who is a Diplomate of the American Board of Laser Surgery, specializing in laser bodysculpting.
Dr. Patino is a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery, and a Fellow of the California Academy of Cosmetic Surgery. Dr. Patino is also a faculty member of the American Society of Cosmetic Physicians.
About Dr. Patino
Dr. Patino has been in practice for more than 34 years. He is board certified and re-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Dr. Patino began as a surgeon in a trauma center and started his own private emergency surgery practice in 1989. From 1991-2001, he served as the medical director of the surgical house staff for Saint Mary’s Medical Center in San Francisco.
Dr. Patino became interested in hair transplantation upon meeting a pioneer of hair transplantation in 1997. He then completed a hair transplantation training from 1998 to 2001 and followed up with a General Cosmetic Surgical Fellowship.
Dr. Patino opened The Cosmetic Surgical Center of El Cerrito in 2005. He continues to serve patients using cutting-edge techniques, minimal sedation, and the latest technology. Dr. Patino loves working with patients and helping other doctors to learn about new ways to help their own practices. He enjoys living in El Cerrito and is fluent in six languages.
