What Is Liposuction?
Liposuction, sometimes called lipoplasty, is a procedure in which fat cells are removed from various areas of the body. It is generally used to help shape “trouble spots” that people have difficulty shrinking through diet and exercise, such as the abdomen, thighs, and buttocks.
How Is Liposuction Performed?
Liposuction patients are generally put under general anesthesia, but local anesthesia may be used instead. A small tube attached to a suction device is then slipped into an incision over the area where fat is to be removed. Dr. Patino uses this device to break up layers of fat and suction them out of the body. Some specialized types of liposuction rely on ultrasound or small mechanical devices attached to the tube to help break up fat more efficiently.
