The Patino Method™ for TUSBA™ (Transumbilical Silicone Breast Augmentation) is an innovative breast augmentation technique developed by Gabriel H. Patino, MD, allowing silicone breast implants to be placed through a discreet incision hidden within the navel rather than through an incision on the breast.
In 2020, Dr. Patino developed his distinctive manual approach to transumbilical silicone breast augmentation, performing silicone implant placement through the navel without the use of an endoscope or specialized insertion instruments. This refined surgical approach is known as The Patino Method™ for TUSBA™.
Traditional breast augmentation typically requires an incision on or near the breast, such as beneath the breast fold, around the areola, or within the armpit.
With The Patino Method™ for TUSBA™, Dr. Patino uses a small incision concealed within the belly button to create the surgical pathway and place silicone breast implants beneath the chest muscle.
A defining feature of The Patino Method™ is Dr. Patino’s manual technique, developed to perform transumbilical silicone breast augmentation without relying on an endoscope or specialized insertion instruments.
For appropriately selected patients, this approach offers an important cosmetic advantage: there is no surgical incision placed directly on the breast.
Dr. Patino’s experience with transumbilical breast augmentation extends back more than two decades. In 2004, he performed transumbilical breast augmentation using tumescent anesthesia and oral sedation.
Since 2014, Dr. Patino has taught transumbilical breast augmentation techniques to fellow physicians at professional conferences and educational programs. His work has included transumbilical breast augmentation with saline implants as well as the continued development and refinement of techniques for transumbilical silicone breast augmentation.
Today, The Patino Method™ for TUSBA™ represents the evolution of that experience—a specialized surgical approach designed to provide breast augmentation with silicone implants while keeping the surgical incision discreetly hidden within the navel.
The Patino Method™ is more than an incision location. It represents Dr. Patino’s specific surgical approach to transumbilical silicone breast augmentation, developed through decades of experience with transumbilical breast surgery and refined to allow silicone implant placement through the belly button using his manual technique.
